Trade and Investment Negotiations

Canada-Caribbean Community Free Trade Negotiations (CARICOM)

CARICOM, comprised of 15 country members and four associate country members in the Caribbean and Latin America, is an established trade and investment partner for Canada. In July 2007, Canada announced the launch of negotiations between Canada and the CARICOM countries. Building on the productive November 2009 first round, a successful second round of negotiations was held in March 2010.

Negotiations will cover a wide range of issues, including trade in goods, rules of origin, customs procedures, trade facilitation, non-tariff barriers, cross-border trade in services, temporary entry, investment, government procurement, dispute settlement and institutional provisions.

In 2010, British Columbia exported $105 million of goods to Central America and the Caribbean.
